Vacation in architectural monument combines heritage conservation and tourism. Historically valuable buildings are taken over, gently renovated and rented out as holiday flats. The model provides a double benefit: the monuments are given a revitalised future and the holiday guests experience a stay in an exceptional building. The idea is being realised by the ‘Vacation in architectural monument’ foundation, which was set up by the Swiss Heritage Society in 2005.

Public transport: From Brig, take the regional train in the direction of Andermatt to Fiesch. Change there to the Postbus in the direction of Ernen, Dorfplatz to Ernen, Dorfplatz.

Car: From Brig, follow route 19 to Niedernen. In Lax turn off to Ernen.

Parking: In the public car park at the entrance to the village or at the Volg supermarket

Number of persons 7: The house can accommodate seven guests in four bedrooms (1 double room, a room with two single beds (trapped), a sofa bed in the music room on the ground floor, a single bed in the chapel and 1 double bed (160x200) in the summer room (can only be used in the summer months). The house has three entrances. The main entrance is on the side facing the church, where the garden seating area is also located. One entrance leads directly to the music room, which can also be used as a room, and the third entrance can be reached via the stairs and leads from the village side into the stairwell.

Season: All year round

Short holidays: Possible in the low season.

Outdoor space: Furnished garden seating area. The garden is not secured towards the church.

Heating: The house is heated by two Giltstein stoves. Please refer to the detailed instructions in the house folder and the introduction by the caretaker. There is underfloor heating on the ground floor (music room and bathroom) and radiators in the chapel and kitchen to ensure a basic temperature.

Stove / fireplace: Giltstein stove in the ground floor and first floor parlours, firing from the Träche in the kitchen and from the first floor staircase.

WLAN: Is available.

Open: The house can be rented all year round.

Pets: Pets are allowed.

Altitude: 1200 m above sea level.

Kitchen: Electric cooker with oven. Dishwasher available.

Washing machine and tumble dryer: available.

Extras: The floors are made of wood and stone, which is why we recommend good slippers. As not all rooms in historic houses can be heated evenly, we recommend that you bring enough warm clothing. When the stoves are heated, please close the doors to the rooms, otherwise the heat will dissipate in the cold stairwell. The firing up of both stoves is described in detail on site in the house folder. The stove on the upper floor has a wooden vestibule - this must not come into contact with the fire in the firebox under any circumstances. Please read the instructions in the house folder carefully. 

Important additions and dangers:
The Ernen chaplaincy is a historic building, a listed building. Although it is equipped with modern technology, we would like to point out that certain functional details such as window and door openers, stair handrails and step heights do not comply with current standards and may be a potential source of danger. Use at your own risk. The tenant is aware of these circumstances. The Vacation in architectural monument foundation and e-domizil decline any liability.
